These past 2 weeks have been long ones for me – I have been sick, unable to join my friends and feeling guilty about my upcoming marathon. On Monday the 26th I started feeling my throat during the afternoon. By Tuesday evening, I was feeling tired and had a headache, so I decided to stay at home for the day. By the next morning, I was achy and went to the doctor, who tested me for both the flu and for strep throat. While both tests came out negative, I was not feeling any better, even after taking Tamiflu as a precaution because my family had already had the flu. I spent all day Friday and most of Saturday sleeping with on-and-off fevers.
I had a hard mile repeat workout planned during the week and a 20-mile run on the weekend. Both scrapped….. Finally by Monday I felt a little better and went for a 10-mile run. Sporadically during the week I ran and I did feel better for my 13 miler over the weekend a couple of days ago. I felt very guilty about missing all those days but the bottom line is that my body needed the rest. I had to allow it time to recover.
What kind of experiences have you had while being sick and not able to run?

[…] In retrospect, being sick for 10 days with about 3 weeks to go was too much for my body and I could not recover. Next time will be better. This is how I felt those days: Click Here […]
